Vienna, Virginia, USA – 18 November, 2014 – The Ministry of Rural Development (MRD) of Cambodia, the agency overseeing rural water supply, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), needed a Management Information System (MIS) to effectively collect, monitor, and evaluate activities undertaken in the WASH sector.
Synergy International Systems has been selected to develop the envisioned MIS, which will be managed by the Ministry’s Rural Water Supply and Rural Sanitation and Hygiene departments. The system will initially be implemented in 11 districts across 5 provinces and later scaled throughout the entire country.
The MIS is expected to support the WASH sector’s project/program tracking, follow-up and evaluation functions through efficient and systematic data collection, collation, reporting and analysis. Crucially, it will allow the Ministry to measure sector performance and progress towards national WASH targets and objectives, in line with the sector Performance Monitoring Framework (PMF). The system will also serve an accountability purpose by enabling the Ministry to provide performance information to relevant stakeholders and the general public.
“Our main objective is to successfully deploy WASH MIS, which will increase the visibility and accuracy of WASH results data, supporting government departments and international donors in evidence-based planning and accelerate the achievement of the Cambodia Millennium Development Goals and national RWSSH Strategy/PMF results metrics” said Dr. David Kocharov, Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, who recently carried out the requirements definition phase of the project in Phnom Penh.
Synergy was awarded the project through a competitive international bidding by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The company recently developed and rolled-out a similar water sanitation MIS for the Government of Bangladesh.
